Behind the Floats: A deep dive into all things stranded knitting

Now is the time to get lost in the world of stranded knitting!

Learn how to select and substitute the best yarns from what is available into your colourwork knitting. Perfect using value, shade, and texture to maximise the outcomes of your colourwork knitting. Including a 15% discount from Get Flocked to explore different colourwork yarns for your best colourwork project ever.

Stranded knitting technique

Two handed and One handed methods will be covered with a focus on two handed knitting that is suited for all knitters including: Continental Knitters, Left Handed Knitters, and Beginner knitters. Mastering the best stranding technique for you will ensure that your knitting and the final project are a dream each time you pickup the needles. We will also explore when and how to trap floats flat and in the round.

Gauge

Especially after substitution, is a big challenge in colourwork but you will come away with all the tools and skills to make the necessary adjustments. We will also cover how to expand a pattern if it is too small or too large for you. With the gauge skills and tools you will also be able to adjust and substitute any colourwork pattern.

The Final Chop

We will cover steeking: preparing, cutting, finishing, and why and where to use steeks in our knitting. A live steeking demonstration will be provided that will allow all class members to participate and learn about steeking without having to prepare a sample.

Please feel free to bring a colorwork project to cast on or a project to steek in the class. To help you have the best success I have included a PDF of how to select your project. (Download PDF Pattern Guide -

Does your top pull across the front, bunch at the sides, creep up unexpectedly, or hang like it’s given up on life? Let’s fix that! Bust darts are the secret sauce for knits that fit and flatter, and this class will show you how to work a little magic with your stitches.

We’ll chat about who can benefit from a bust dart (spoiler: it might be you!) and how to figure it out. Then, we’ll explore clever ways to add shaping that gives your knits some extra room and your wardrobe a whole new level of fabulousness.

By the end, you’ll be ready to customise your garments with confidence and create knits that look like they were made for your bust—because they were! Bring your sense of humour and your knitting bag; it’s time to get shaping!

Double knitting gives you a double thickness garment that is toasty warm and completely reversible. Excellent for scarfs, cowls and hats. It adapts well to knitting in the round. Planning for all the thing that have gone wrong, could go wrong and how to prevent or deal with them - 30% of all your knitting will get ripped out, but over time we rip out less and less. The most experienced knitters almost never frog and that is not because we do not make mistakes but rather we know how to spot them and fix them. Knitting is a lot like reading a map while driving, it takes a minute to gain that skill as we all remember, we will learn how to read our knitting and understand how the stitches are made, once we have that fixing anything anywhere becomes a breeze. The best mistake though is the one we never make! There are a lot of ways we can roadmap our knitting process to avoid possible errors and I have an endless bank of tips and skills to make sure we avoid as many mistakes as possible.
